Despeñaperros, the bandolero's lair

Hello! it's me again, Hacienda Brujuelo, the olive home.

Last week I located Jaén in the map. Today I want to show you where I am in Spain so maybe one day you can come to see me and maybe have a breakfast together. We have olive oil and good bread!

So this is Spain and that green spot must be stepping me on.

Jaén is Andalucía's door. Andalucía is surrounded by mountains, and in the old times, human people who wanted to travel here had to cross a famous pass called Despeñaperros.

Many human people tried to take those lands for themselves, and many of them achieved (romans, carthaginians, berbers, christians...). Those humans that wanted to get to those lands, had to cross the Despeñaperros pass, so it was the place of many bloody battles through history.

Despeñaperros was the perfect place to ambush poor unwary humans, so in XIX century, the pass became infamous for being the favourite place to bandoleros.

Bandoleros used to hide in the mountains to jump on the caravans that had to cross Despeñaperros. They said about them that they were very strong, braves and gentle with women, so bandoleros soon became "latin lovers", and many french and british women dreamt with crossing the pass to meet them so ladies could have their hearts stolen.

Nowadays is much easier to cross the Pass of Despeñaperros as you can see

and if you travel less than an hour to south from there (direction Granada) you can get to see me.

Hope to see you soon

Best Wishes
Brujuelo Estate
